THE IMPACT OF FOSSIL FUEL EXPLOITATION ON THE PLANET
Abdulquadir Iyanda Jimoh Fossil fuels, including coal, oil, and natural gas, have been the major sources of energy for human civilization for centuries. However, the consequences of their excessive exploitation are becoming increasingly apparent and alarming. The far-reaching impact of fossil fuel exploitation on the planet cannot be overlooked, as it has severe environmental, social, and economic repercussions. One of the primary concerns associated with the exploitation of fossil fuels is the catastrophic effect on the environment, particularly regarding climate change. When burned, fossil fuels release large amounts of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4), into the atmosphere. These gases trap heat and contribute to the greenhouse effect, leading to global warming. The increased global temperatures, in turn, result in rising sea levels, melting glaciers, extreme weather events, and the alteration of natural ecosystems. The Earth's delic...
