POLITICS IN MORO AND THE RESILIENCE OF THE YOUTHS

By Jimoh Abdulquadir Iyanda

Young people has taken their stands to fill our lingering population by 60% or more. Today in politics, the young are faced with many obstacles and difficulties as a result of one common trait which is "self-centeredness" that has become our lifestyle in this part of the world.

The power of Youth cannot be underscore in the development of any nation,  Youths may not necessarily asking for power most of the times, but "Inclusive Government" in the process of decision-making, policymaking and et cetera. Youth participation will definitely limits the high level of Youth resilience in our society.

Nigeria is a country that we always hack on the leaves without digging deep into the root cause of a problem, Youth agitation for power will continue as a matter of fact to a very alarming state, if Youth cannot be given rooms to participate, represent and as well as have say in the process of decision-making respectively.

Furthermore, In Nigeria today youths participation in the political activities is very low and discouraging, in view of that; all adults found themselves fixed in the political activities on the detriment of the Youth. And agitation for power and other forms of amoral activities is inevitable and is increasing day in-day out, because youth that shows interest in politics were discouraged by the adults callous attitudes and they felt been cheated from their rights.

More so, when young people are disenfranchised or disengaged from political processes, then we should know that a significant portion of our population have been delude or deprive of their right due to their little or no voice or influence in the decision-making which affects the majority of our population that are Youths - The reason for the youth resilience.

If truthfully we want peace and friendly environment in our society here, it is very essential that the young people are engaged in formal political processes and have a say in formulating today and tomorrow's politics and likewise in decision-making.

Nonetheless, for young people to be adequately represented in political institutions, processes, and decision-making, and in particular elections, the young people must know their rights and be given the necessary knowledge and capacity to participate meaningful way at all levels. And this is what we have refused to respect, understand and do for humanity.

However, In Moro of ours, many things have go wrong and we refuse to address most of the aforementioned issues. And from my own point of view as a Young writer, there's a lingering problem from current situation of things after 2019 General Election as many youths felt cheated as a result of glaring abandonment, and regrouping to challenge and possibly take mantle of leadership from the "Self-centered" political office holders.

Youth in Moro are one of the peaceful and ever obedience young law abiding generation in this part of the world.

The situation of the matter now in a local government called Moro make me to remind the words of the great renaissance from the South-West, Chief Obafemi Awolowo who says: " The pursuit of wealth is not a bad thing in itself because without food and comforts which wealth provides, life will be penurious and drab. But always remember that any wealth accumulated on a selfish basis, at the expense of others or at the expense of the state in defiance of social justice helps to create a disorganised society in which everybody will eat everybody and no single person can be safe".

The level of self-centeredness among our leaders has created a disorganised environment for us and no single attempt in place from any patriot to address this lingering problem.

"Our own society has been built on the sweat of the poor with very little given to them in return "- says Awolowo. No wonder today when our Government builds Schools, Health centres, Roads and some other necessary social amenities for us we continue to praise them, not knowing that, these are able to be given to us from our drenched sweat.

Everyday of our lives in Nigeria as a country, we talked about bad government and bad leadership, we blame everything on our leaders and we do choose from among us including our fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters who rose from the grassroots to become our representatives at all levels of our Government. Definitely, we have been choosing among us for those powerful positions and we reap what we sow. We have keep on telling them nonsense and we have trained most our leaders on the brick of nuisance - We need to change our orientation.

Finally, "Envy is a weed that should not be watered", advise to our leaders in Moro and Kwara as a whole, if we refuse to give youth their mandate and as well tailor them to be self-reliance, they will become liabilities to the Government and it will be too late to rescind our ugly motives.

Youth are too poor to run for political office, Our youth are immature, Our youth are naughty and disobedience - Remember if we continue like this, you have trained them to be so destructive.
