THE CONSUMERS GENERATION
Since the world has turned into a global village, we consume varieties of information without verifying the content, source, and the real meaning it gives us.
However, our generation consumes bunches or a large sum of information through the power of technology or social media, and we are now becoming less and less productive daily.
The media power and its cunningness in showcasing the time pleasant lifestyles of people from different corners of the world change many people's perspectives of what it takes to succeed and live a fulfilling or successful life.
In the same lane, the constant display of amusing and admirable lifestyles of most successful politicians, business tycoons, artists, sports people, and aristocracy on social media has rewritten the mental view of many young lads most especially in this part of the world.
Social media has made us forget where we are coming from; our backgrounds, family, community, and our assignment in life.
Social Media has rendered our generation unproductive, lazy, and full of entitlements mentality.
Then, we are in a free world where you can do and choose for yourself any form of lifestyle you so cherished to live. And that's the reason why "fake life" is so common and legal in our land.
All that we consume are not regulated like in the most developed world we reckon with, the freedom we think we're enjoying and excited about has led to many psychological, social, and economic problems like; "blaming syndrome", depression, anxiety, rituals killing, fraudulent activities, syndicated cyber racketeering, corruption, Ponzi schemes or businesses, and false investment gigs.
On the other hand, social media are powerful platforms or tools that can be systematically adopted to create fame, success, impact, improve, transform, and elude poverty and ignorance for the benefit of our great nation and with little effort and commitment.
Meanwhile, According to Wikipedia defines the concept of "Media Consumer" as follows: "It includes activities such as interacting with new media, reading books and magazines, watching television and film, and listening to the radio. Also, an active media consumer must have the capacity for skepticism, judgment, free-thinking, questioning, and understanding". But the reverse is the case in Nigeria.
Nigerian Youths need to wake up from their deep sleep and eschew all forms of antisocial activities that social media has brought forth that have contributed to amoral and serious societal problems in our lives today.
There is high demand for the strength of the youths in transforming Nigeria for the better, we need to quickly shift away from being the consumer and unproductive generation Nigeria ever had. Honestly, it is glaring that our generation has been infected by a "blaming syndrome", we need God's interventions to baptize us with a new form of hope and freshness to move Nigeria forward.
Furthermore, the majority of us detested how our country is "retrogressing". But what we know better is blaming most situations on our leaders and as well as belonging to political apathy. We have also vowed not to vote or participate in the electioneering processes. It is well. But remember, you are also part of our problems.
Our leaders cannot change anything overnight as we have been conditioned to believe if all of us can not change our mindsets and start taking responsibility for the types of life we so cherished to live.
This is the time to be part of the real change. Your education is very useless if you cannot make a positive change or impact within your immediate and the larger society. Take part to take charge.
Again the real chance we are so cherished in this part of the world, begins with me and you.
Please take responsibility! And do all that's right without supervision by being the designer of your own life and not merely the consumer of it.
